We are upgrading our network from 10 MB to 100 MP TP. The cable is suppose to be CAT5, (We live near China, so that name does not mean it is actual CAT5) and our longest leg is 30m. Our main hub is a 3com OfficeConnect 16 port. Legs run a maxium of30m in the building. We wanted to connect one 30m leg to a 3com OfficeConnect 8 port hub, but they refused to connect. I tried it on a shorter leg and it worked fine, and I put a 10 MB 8 port hub on that leg and it also worked. I have noticed thata few of our longer network cables don’t work for the 100 MB connections, although they are CAT5. It has been suggest that I don’t wire the cables straight, White-Orange, Orange, White-Green, Green, White-Brown, Brown, and White-Blue, Blue, starting on the right when looking at the bottom of the plug.
As for the answer, I am looking to 1) solve this problem, but two a better understanding of the differences in 10 MB and 100 MB requirements, wiring, etc. I have read 3com’s tutorial and itdidn’t help, and doesn’t need to be repeated.
