My personal machines are all Windows, but I have always worked on UNIX/X-Windows based platforms. One of the advantages of X is that you can customize the MMI (Man Machine Interface) to behave the way you want it to.
I suspect thatthere may be (perhaps undocumented, perhaps limited) ways of doing some MMI tuning in Windows
What I’d really like to tune:
1) When a Windows dialog box (like a Schedule+ alarm) pops up, it grabs the input “focus”. If I am power typing a word doc or e-mail at the time, I end up losing some edits, and potentially dismissing the dialog without getting to read it.
X allows you to specify that new windows dont grab input focus. Any ideas on getting Windows (or Schedule+) to play nicely ?
2) Customized Mouse Menus
X also allows you to specify what things show up on pop-up windows when you mouse click. I know that Windows lets you add stuff to the “Send To” folder.
