I have a pci that is manufactured by Union Friendly Systems. It’s a typical IBM type pc. The modem quit functioning . It was in a small slot as opposed to the larger port slots. I talked to a tech at the seller and he was little help. I replaced the old modem with a like sized 56K from u.s. robotics. Upon installing the new modem , the computer ( windows ME op system) says its recognizes and has installed the software. When trying to operate/test the modem , I get the same message that says the modem failed to respond. I have removed and added this numerous times and to no avail. I reinstalled the old modem and did a system restore and still nothing. The tech mentioned that this was an earlier model and they had changed the systems to a more conventional setup. All I want to do is get this thing online so I can actually do some work at home instead of spending way too many hours in the office.
