Modified Star Topology

I have a customer with an existing network in the administrative portion of their facility, and their 12 port 10-Base/T hub is located in that section of the building.

The customer wants to extend the network to another six PC’s at a location outside of the administrative wing in the production area, with distances from the administrative hub measuring from 250’+.

Rather than run a representative cable for each PC to admintration, I want to wire to a hub location local to the production area, and send only one line to admin.

Here’s the question: Sould I just add a standard hub and uplink it to the existing hub (either via uplink port or flip cable), install a switch in the production area and link it to the existing hub (if I do that should I relocate the server so that it’s on the switch rather than the hub?), or add a switch in production, and replace the hub in administration with a switch?

In order for me to give any credit for your answer, I will need an explanation as to why you answered the way you did.

Thanks!
