Monitor Problem

I have a relatively new Acer flatscreen monitor, an AL1916. For some reason bitmaps don’t show up in applications (Word, Photoshop, etc). The graphics work fine in everything from high end games to still pictures, but when I run applications, the UI is just black and white, which often makes it difficult to use. The problem didn’t present itself on the old monitor, just this new one. Any ideas what’s causing it, or what the solution might be?
