More Outlook issues

Well, we managed to take care of the “relaying denied” issues – thanks to everyone here for their input on that.

Now we’re back to a previous timing-out issue on my boss’s workstation that got distracted from because of the relaying denied message.

This issue is sporadic, but the errors happen more often than not.

“! Task ‘mail.amerigopartners.com – Receiving’ reported error (0x8004210a): ‘The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).’
! Task ‘mail.amerigoventures.com – Receiving’ reported error (0x8004210a): ‘The operation timed out waiting for a response from the receiving (POP) server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'”

Since there is only one workstation out of five on this network having this problem, our ISP has already disclaimed any responsibility, stating logically that their server cannot distinguish between workstations on our network.

We’re wondering if this could be a firewall issue. There is a Cisco PIX firewall on our network, as well as a Windows firewall active on the laptop that’s getting this error message.

Larry has decided that since his laptop only runs on networks protected by firewalls, there is no need for the local firewall on the laptop and will be de-activating it.

I’ll update this query as soon as we determine what, if any, effect the firewall de-activation has. Meanwhile, any input someone might have is extremely welcome.

Thanks 🙂
