Motherboard and XP Memory Issues

by davidmk81 . Updated 16 years, 4 months ago

I have been racking my brain tryin so many tips to get my motherboard/xp to register the right amount of memory installed on my system. I have had had this system running this same memory for a while and never had a issue until i took out the sticks and used it on another system which also ran the ram fine. both systems are the same and campat with the orginal ram. The other day after having the system unpulgged for a few months i notice that the system was only showing 16mb of ram and once i put in the another stick it the bois still said 16mb shared memory. After reading pots and changing things in the bois and resetting the cmos i was finally able to install windows xp. This was only after i changed the bois setting for shared memory to 8mg not 16mb. Oh yea forgot i also had to set the set the bois to onboard video even though i dont use any other video card. As you would think the xp install took forever and also for the first load of xp. When i go to my computer specs it says im running 56mb of ram. I thought that one if the sticks was bad but i can only get the system to work with both sticks and again in the im clearly getting ram from both sticks. I have also changed the slots they were in no luck. Here are my specs from belarc advisor and it always shows my motherboard # but now it wont. Please help me if you have any advice please let me know =)
