I have a client with an IBM NetVista PC. I am not sure yet of the hardware details, but the symptoms are as follows:
Once the pc is turned on, during boot (running W2k Pro) it will power itself down after approx. 30 seconds, or once the OS loader screen has appeared. I have tested the power supply in another pc, no problems. I have also attempted to re-install the OS which worked fine until attempting to run for the first time, then symptoms returned. When checking the hardware I noticed that the heatsink had become detached from the cpu, so I cleaned the old silicon from both the heatsink and cpu, then re-applied a new layer. I have replaced the fan as well.
The problem still exists. My question is whether I should first try for the motherboard or the chip. Any and all suggestions welcome.
