Motherboards and Sony VAIO Computers

Dear Sirs;
A computer technician recently informed my mother that there was no motherboard available for Sony VAIO Computers because of a proprietary design. She owns a 3-5 year old PCV 133 VAIO Computer. My question concerns if this technician iscorrect or if you know of a motherboard that is compatible with Sony VAIO Computers.

We would like to be able to upgrade the motherboard and processor if the answer is that there is.
