mouse problem

I am having problems with my mouse. every now and again the pointer jumps to the corner of the screen. This only happens with optical mice and not with ball mice. I have a solid blue mouse mat and have connected the mouse via usb and ps2.I have tried three optical mice on this computer and they all do the same thing. I am running windows xp sp2.
