Moving an Exchange server

A predecessor of mine installed Exchange onto the same server with the PDC (Active Directory). Although this makes some sense from an adminstrative standpoint, I believe it causes more headaches and is not the correct standard. I would like to move Exchange to another server but I can’t seem to access the Exchange System Manager. Any tips, pointers and white papers on this subject would be greatly appreciated.
