Hello people,
My question is with reference to the Server OpMaster Roles.
I am planning to transfer the Operation Master roles from my DC to the ADC.
The network constitutes of 1 -2003 Server, 1 ADC – n XP Clients.
Currently DC is holding all 5 roles. ADC is acting as Global Catalog. The DC is to be upgraded and shall be used for other planned r&d in future. Therefore, I am to transfer the roles to the ADC gradually.
My concern is:
Since the GPOs are distributed over two locations – a)the Active Directory & b) the SYSVOL folder;
so if the PDC role is moved to the ADC, the GPO location would have to be administered every time and I wud need to opt for 1 of these 3 options –
—
1. The one with the Operations Master token for the PDC emulator
2. The one used by the Active Directory Snap-ins
3. Use any available domain controller
—
On testing this, the shutdown times (both for the server and the clients) were greatly increased.
Also the Group Policy objects (AD Container–>Properties–>Group Policy Tab) stopped functioning as they should have been (Policy not applied to the concerned object, etc.)
I will transfer PDC role first, RID, Domain naming then. Schema and Infrastructure master roles would remain with the DC till the time it is taken off the floor.
So, i am lookin for suggestion and opinions about the correct n efficient way of transferring the roles to the ADC with the least downtime possible.
Thanks for your effort.
