MS Works 4.5 Fails to Save

I have a MS Works 4.5 user who cannot save a file without exiting the file. Ctl_S, the toolbar save, and alt_F Save all look like they are saving (says it’s saving) but the file doesn’t get written to the hard drive and the time stamp doesn’t change. Anyone have any ideas short of reinstalling Works?
