My CD ROM drive is working too slow

My system is PIII 450, 192Megs, 10GB HDD, and
the CDROM drive’s speed is 48X. I’ve found
recently the it is working too slow, and it gave me error messages when I play some of the disks I used to play well. I wonder if the sensor is old or dirtyor something.

Please help me out.
