My Home Network.

I’m setting up a home network with two PC’s. They each have a network adapter and I’ve used cat 5 cabling because they’re 10/100’s.I’ve connected them to a hub but can’t find them in network neighborhood. I’m looking for something that will lead from a to z on setting up a home network.What do I use for a NOS if anything. I know there is something simple I’m missing.Can anyone point me to a place on the net that will tell me how to simply set up a home network?
