I’ve been in the I.T. business for over 15 years and am a highly experienced, well trained Network Engineer and Systems Administrator. That said, our company recently hired a new EVP, a woman who is very knowledgeable and well known in her field. The thing is they’ve also put her in charge of the I.T. department – an area about which she knows next to nothing. This also goes for the Executive Assistant she brought along with her.
I’ve never worked for anyone who did not have an understanding of what I do. I’ve alway been the one who dealt with outside vendors, who made the tehnological deals, who made decisions on how the infrastructure was managed and expanded. But now that’s changed. Since they came on board I’ve been castrated and am now forced to provide them with information (they don’t even understand) for them to run I.T. and make decisions that have far reaching implications. I’ve become Helpdesk Boy, am bored to tears, and no longer wish to be responsible for what I don’t control.
I don’t want to quit, but I may have to before I do something I will regret. What are your thoughts?
