NAV 2003 Autoprotect

I am using XP Home and Norton Antivirus 2003. Updates for each have been done and a full scan has been successfully completed; but the resident icon will not show up in the task bar. The NAV control panel does not respond to the enable option for autoprotect. Also, I have tried unistalling Norton with the “Rnav” tool. Please help.
