NDPS Manager reports an error hp 2500

In the NDPS manager I have an hp 2500 printer that reports an I/O error. That is it no other details. At the printer itself there is nothing wrong yet no print jobs are getting processed. I shutdown the printer agent, kill all jobs in the queue and still reports the I/O error.
