NDPS printing

Hello,
On the new Novell5.1 we have set up a NDPS print manager and coresponding printers. The Novell server is using TCP/IP. We have two subnets. When we are setting printers up o workstations, the server’s IP has to be entered as a gateway. Without that, you cas still install the printer, but we get a message error (“couminication error”). Is there a way to set it up so that you don’t have to enter the gateway?
The reason I am asking is that the server is not set up as a gateway.
