As a current student I have a large dilemma. I have just finished a college HNC in Networking, which included semesters 1 and 2 of my CCNA. My initial plan was to do another year at college and finish my CCNA, then go to a modern tech. university and get a degree in networking and computer support which would likely include my CCNP.
However, I have just been accepted into one of the more established universities to start at year 1 of a computer science degree, this was unexpected to say the least. My major interest was and still is networking but over the last year I have found myself more and more intrigued about the theoretical foundations of computing as well as other aspects such as programming.
What I need to know is, would I be better off both financially and in terms of job satisfaction if i went for the computer science degree or stayed purely networking and got all my industry certs. What kind of stuff could I do with computer science, and am I likely to languish in tech support positions if i stay networking,( tech support may be fine for some but all i want to do is be a network engineer, even admin. sounds a little dull)
I don’t want to be a dick about this but I have very little time to make my decision so please, if you have any input at all it would be of so much help to me right now, Thanks !!
