Need APIPA to work

by yechenglin . Updated 18 years, 7 months ago

My tablet notebook had a mapped network drive to a shared folder on c: drive, so I need a IP address for this to work. When no DHCP server is present, I can’t get a IP address.
Automatic Private IP addressing doesn’t work on this Gateway notebook. I tried adding a RegDWord of 1 for IPAutoconfigurationEnabled in Registry, tried assigning Alternative IP configuration(with static IP), and finally assigning a static ip. None of this works. IPConfig just reports Media Disconnected, Which of course is true, because I disconned the cable and disable the wireless to simulate the condition I will have on the road. When I first encounter this problem, I used DisableDHCPMediaSense so the computer will remember the last IP address it used, and my network driv works. But this creates problems where I can’t connect to Wireless networks in hotels etc. Any suggestions on how to get a IP address without DHCP?
