Need help installing HP Laserjet 1600 printer on windows vista

Operating with a Windows Vista Home Premium model m8100n 32 bit operating system.

Cannot intall HP color laserjet 1600 printer.

Device Setting always comes up with error. I plugged the printer directly into power outlet, calibrated it, cleaned it using arrow keys on printer, Test pages from printer are clear. Colored printing from computer have shadows around all color lines.
Prints some word, excel documents. Will not print a .pdf that is very full colored page.
Downloaded drivers, but drivers only for 64 bit operating system.

the printer shows ready but when ask it to print shows up as error.
