Need to create user-friendly photo gallery on network…suggestions?

Ok, I’ve been asked to create something that allows everyone on the office network to easily scroll through thumbnails of maps and be able to open the pdfs with a click of the button. The metadata should also be displayed with the thumbnail,or at least some desription of the map, when it was made etc…I was thinking of using an open source photo gallery and just creating a sort of web page on the shared drive (network? not really familiar with office networks and how they work) BUT all of these photo galleries use some sort of server side language, like msqul to run. Is this going to be a problem if I don’t actually go live with this little web page? I don’t want to actually upload any of the pdfs and have everyone download them when they can just access them on the network already. Thoughts?
