My cousin gave me a computer so I took it home, started it up and the Log In page for Windows came up accompanied by a message that said that XP had to be activated on that system. I finally found out how to get to the log in by hitting control-alt-delete twice and I called my cousin but he can’t remember his password – he gave me the one he thought was right, but it didn’t work.
My Question — what do I need to do here? The microsoft web site said that a phone number should pop up on screen for activating the account but it didn’t and the tech support number on the site cost $59. I can’t get to the regular start menu and thus to the internet to activate or anything because I can’t log in. Plus, why is the computer asking to activate XP in the first place? My cousin hasn’t used the computer for a while so he didn’t remember moving the XP to a different computer or anything.
HELP! What can I do to get the computer up and running?
