NetWare 6 and Mac OSX

Recently, we upgraded to NW 6 and our department was moved to a new building. We have a number of users who are using Macs running OS9 and OSX. In our new building, the central ITS department did not set up an Appletalk zone. Since the users weremoving to OSX anyway, we figured this would be a good time to stop using Appletalk. Now, the users are able to see the NW6 server on the network under CIFS, but when they try to log on they are refused. I have configured simple passwords for them and done all the other things I can find in the Novell documentation and TIDs. Has anyone else run into a similar problem?
