Network Card Adapter

I have installed a PCI network adapter and when I put in in the slot the computer recognizes it and the driver installs, yet I do not get a green light on the card and when I plug in the network cable, it does not recognize the network. I know the network cable is good because I used a cable from another workstation that I know to be working. Any insight? Thanks.
