I am running a network at an office. There are approximately 15 PC’s that need to be networked with access to the company fileserver. We will soon have a web server that will host our website, and a Cisco ASA firewall guarding the network. Currently, everything is configured and working fine without any network management software.
Are there any network management softwares that would be recommended for my situation? I know that in the past, when I was unable to get from one computer to another on our simple office network, I installed a trial of Network Magic, which made some unknown changes to the network settings and I was then “Magically” able to get from one computer to another.
The reason I hate this solution is because it doesn’t really tell you what changes are made to fix the network, it just does some configuring, and then it works. Furthermore, it adds protocols to the Local Area Connection Properties, and I don’t like the idea of this software running the network without really knowing the specifics of all the settings.
Are these types of softwares recommended and if so, which ones? Another IT member wants to purchase licenses of Network Magic Pro to install on all the workstations here, but I am skeptical of the idea.
