Network shares disconnect on domain

by mlalich . Updated 20 years, 1 month ago

Here is what’s happening.

Computers involved:
Server 2003 Enterprise Edition R2
WinXP Pro SP2 desktop
WinXP Pro SP2 laptop

Networking equipment:
Linksys Router

Network connectivity is fine as I can ping all systems and can browse the internet normally.

The router runs DHCP and the server is a Domain Controller. The server has several shared folders. When I log in to a workstation as a standard domain user, I can browse through the domain and see all connected computers, but when I try and browse the domain contoller for shared resources I’m prompted for a username and password. The only username/password that works is the Admin. The user I tried to browse with is in Active directory along with in the permissions of the shared folder. Now like I said I can browse the DC with the Admin account and map the drive, but upon rebooting the workstation the map shows up as disconnected as the share was created with the Admin account and the actual user account isn’t being accepted. The exact error I’m recieving if I attempt to log in as anything but the Admin is as follows “The user name you typed is the same as the user name you logged in with. The user name has already been tried. A domain controller can not be found to verify that user name.” When I try to access the shared drive if it’s been disconnected, I get an error that says “The system detected a possible attempt to comprimise security. Please ensure that you can contact the server that authenticated you.”

What the heck is happening?? I’ve never had this problem before. I currently only have specific users able to access the share and have completely deleated everyone, but I’m considering adding everyone back as just read and see what happens. Please though give me some input!!
