networked printer problem

Two computers; desktop has attached printer, set up for shared printing. Laptop access via Wi-Fi. Has been working for over a year. Now laptop can’t print. Desktop prints fine.

From laptop, print preview works. Printing starts then, when it would transfer file to printer, pop-up says “Printing failed when starting the document”

If I go to the laptop Printers and Faxes, select this printer and try to display properties, I get:
“Cannot connect…The print spooler service is not running.”

If I run msconfig on laptop it says Print Spooler is running.

Rebooting both computers does not change anything.

Any ideas on how to fix this problem?
