Networking in a new area

A lot of IT people are facing this problem now. You have to move to a new area of the country (family, spouse, health, elder care, …)

The question is how do you start to reestablish a network of people that will be your new base in the new area? You need people to help you find a great new job, to be those “sources” you can call on to bounce ideas off of, and those people that you will be able to help as you get established.

Where to you start? Have you had to do this before, and how did you manage it?
