My primary function at my company is to maintain and update the web sites. Until this morning, things were going along swimmingly. However, working with in-house web hosting is new to me, and our server has seemingly made a change I didn’t authorize regarding access to the web sites hosted there.
As of this morning, all of them are asking for login information. These sites have always been available on the web, and I have made no changes to their properties or configuration since I joined the company. There are no .htaccess files anywhere on the server.
After the first login request popped up, I turned web sharing on. Since it’s always been off, that should not have been an issue. At any rate, it didn’t make any difference, so I turned it off again.
Where do I look for this nasty little gatekeeper in order to neutralize his efforts? I’m using IIS on Windows Server 2003.
