Networking Question from NOOB

We have a DSL Modem, several switches but lost critical information resulting from former tech geek leaving the premises.
How does one configure the daisy-chained switches? We know our Gateway IP as well as ISP info but we got lost when going further down the daisy-chained switches. Do we use the Gateway IP and DHCP on each switch and hope for the best?
