Networking Vista with Xp

by crucheau . Updated 18 years, 4 months ago

I have a dell inspiron 1420 running Vista home premium and a Pc running XP. I had a laptop running XP and I?
had setup a home network with no cable just using the internet cable modem and i could transfer files between the PC and the laptop. Now i want to connect my vista the same way. I connected the vista wirelessly to internet and i could see the PC on network. The problem is to connect the 2 running XP i created a workgroup that I named but Vista didn’t ask me for a workgroup name and could see the PC but can’t open the folders i am sharing. I got this message:”You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of the server to find out if you have access permissions” The specific network name is no longer available.
The PC couoldn’t see the Vista. I restarted the Vista and the PC and the vista couldn’t see the PC anymore on ntework but has access to internet. Help me step by step please on how to do this with no cables if possible and only with my cable modem. Thanks
