New Domain Controller with existing Domain Name

What are the dos and donts when you are setting up a new DC (Win 2K8 Svr) with an existing domain name on the internet?

The plan is to get an inhouse mail server and move mails from the existing Mail service provider to the New inhouse MS exhange server.
