New Graphics Card

I have recently tried installing a new graphics card into my computer, but the display only works when I have the cord ran into my motherboard with built in display, but does not when plugged into the card itself. I believe a fix to my issue is changing the primary video device in the bios menu, but there are no options in my bios menu for video changing. I am not sure what to do here. Any help would be appreciated
