Newer to IT, older in years

I need help. I’ve been a CAD draftsman/Electrical Designer since 1983 and will now be changing career direction getting my A+ certification this summer. With no experience in the IT field other than basic Word and Excel, what kind of job should I belooking for now to begin my IT career (before I get my A+ certification) if money is secondary to career goals? Help desk, PC Technician…?
