I am currently in a debate with a co-worker. And I am failing to see the reasoning behind, why we currently have the set up that we have. This topic came up because alot of the servers that are set up with NIC teaming are dropping off the network, for no apparent reason. All the settings are correct, and there is nothing in the event logs that would suggest why these servers are dropping… A reboot fixes the issue… The end user is starting to get a little agitated.. We also have a Case opened with M$.
Servers: HP ProLiant DL320 G5’s, Server 03′ R2 Standard.
Switch’s: Catalyst 6500-E
User wants: Speed and Up time (thats it)
I suggest changing the lay out to use load balancing with a secondary server (for redundancy). The Data is out on a NAS/SAN. Because when server 1 goes down, server 2 picks up and takes its place (cluster). Makes logical sense to me… the servers are going down anyways… Might as well have some redundancy…
We currently have the servers set up for NIC teaming. This provides Fault tolerance and load balancing. Thats the only argument… (then they shouldn’t get aggravated when their SH** goes down)
So if you were in the same situation, what would you do?
