NIS and Administrator Privileges

I have learned that you should not run your computer with the administrator account, but NIS says it will only run correctly under the administrator account. For example if I change to a power user, my automatic liveupdate for the AntiVirus program is disabled, and not telling what else is not working properly. Any suggestions on this seemingly dumb restriction on their software? (Except to force everybody, even home user to their corporate version of the product)
