No drive letter using SonyCDRW with XP

I installed a Sony CDRW in a computer that runs Win XP Home. The drive is found during boot but it does not show up im My computer or Explore. I can type the drive letter that it should be and then I can see the cd that I have in it. I’ve never seen that before. I hope that someone out there have see this and can help me. thanks
