No hard drive found

I had to format my c: drive because of the Nimda virus infection. After I formatted the c: drive, I installed a CD-ROM drive on the computer. Now when I try to boot from a win98 boot disk, the PC can’t find the hard drive and I see a message while booting that there is a boot sector virus. Is there any hope for this machine?
