Here’s the story: I have a Win2k machine that has a development environment set up. The developer uses some Active X controls that require registration from a company that no longer exist. Basically, this computer is not allowed to die. It also has a bunch of other issues, so I don’t want to mess with it if I can help it. I have made a Ghost image of it and want to restore the image to another machine so I can make sure this will be a viable backup and maybe work on the other issues.
Since I don’t have the spare hardware I need hanging around, I tried restoring it to a virtual machine using VMWare Server 2.0. Everything seems to go fine until I get to the Ctrl-Alt-Del screen. There is no mouse, no keyboard, not a single luxury. Keyboard works fine in the F8 menu during boot. Booting into safe-mode doesn’t help.
For some reason, a Win2k disk will not see the existing intallation. It thinks the partitions are corrupt. ERD Commander works just fine with it. I’ve been poking at it for a couple days now. Help!
