This net work is Server 2003 and XP (all sp up to date) workstations. I will just address one printer to keep it simpler. We have a wide format HP printer on our network. It has it’s own ip address 192. ect. We need to install the driver for this printer on each workstation that will use it. When the printer driver is installed the Do Not Share This Printer check box is checked. After some time has passed the printer begins to show up as “wideformat on system1 on system2” in the same list with the original install and on workstations that don’t use that printer. After some longer time there will be “wideformat on system1 on system2 (copy1)” and “wideformat on system3” all this takes some months. add the other number of printers in this network and you can see the problem. The additions are random, some show on some workstations and others show on other workstations. All of the workstations that have printers connected to them are sharing just the one that is connected to. The extra printers that show up are seemingly random and the workstations they show up on are also random. I can handle this but I would rather skip the monthly jaunts through everyone’s print manager.
