Norton Antivirus 2002

I have to disable auto protect with norton antivirus 2002 on my computer to restart in MS Dos mode. Is there anything else I can do to correct this problem? If I don’t my screen has lines on it and you cannot see any words. I can type exit but nothing appears and it will restart windows.
