I have been having a problem for a while now with dieing network cards. First I will tell you alittle about my system
Windows XP Pro
AMD 1 GIG Thunderbird
Gigabyte GA-7ZX Mobo
ATI All In Wonder Radeon 8500DV Edition
30 gig 7200
640MB SDRam PC133
Creative Sound Blaster Live Sound
Realtek 8139 Nic
I have been through atleast 5 different network cards. It doesn’t matter what brand Realtek, Dlink and they all died with the same problem 0 packets received. The network card sends lots but receives nothing. I am on a peer to peer network with 5 computers and they have no problem ever it’s only my system that keeps dieing. I can ping myself via ip and computer name but I can’t ping any other computer and they can’t ping me.
The other day I was playing around with 2 of the dead realtek network cards after many times testing them in other systems still dead, I put them in my system and to no surprise they didn’t work still. I was checking the cables made sure they were all good.Changed cables to the switch still same. I then unpluged my switch and pluged it back in while computer was running and they both came alive. I tried this with another one of my dead nic’s and it didn’t work to bring it alive.
