Novell to Microsoft Switch

Hi,
This may be a coincidence, but since my company changed servers over from Novell to Microsoft, MS Word 2003 documents that are based on templates created in Word97 are taking 5 to 10 minutes to open up and often Word will time out and not respond. What can be done to fix this. I can’t seem to convert the templates to a 2003 file format so that may not be the problem. The only common denominator is this problem has only recently started to happen.
