NT 4 RAS and PPTP

I am running an NT 4 Server with RAS as a Virtual Private Network server using PPTP. It is set up for 20 VPN ports. They are all coming in off of a NIC, not modems.

Often, I get complaints from users that performance is “slow”. When I check their connections in Remote Access Manager, I invariably find their port speed listed at 9600, rather than 64000, which is the norm.

Most of the people are accessing the VPN through a network connection at a remote location, so it’s not a LAN vs. modem access type of thing. Also, the access in is a full T1- so no bandwidth shortage there.

Finally, it seems to be fairly random– no discernable pattern is obvious; at least not yet.

Anyone have any experience with this sort of a problem? Thanks.
