I have set up a PPTP server behind a Novell 5 server that is providing static and dynamic NAT to the internet via a DSL connection. I’ve created a static route for the PPTP server so that it has a public ip. When i try to establish a vpn connection from a remote client i get an error 721: remote ppp peer is not responding. (I am using an NT server 4.0 as the client) I notice also on the PPTP server in the event log the following message:
“The user connected to port VPN1 has been disconnected due to an authentication timeout. ”
I guess that communication is occuring inbound but not back out. Do i need to add a route on the PPTP server? Do I need to open some specific ports on my Novell server to allow the VPN through?
Any help from someone who has successfully set up a client VPN using Microsoft PPTP connected to the internet with DSL (no dial up) behind a firewall would be greatly appreciated.
By the way, I have no problems connecting to other services on my PPTP server from my remote
