Imagine if you will an NT4 server with 4 USR 56k external modems attatched, two are attatched via a multiport i/o card on com 3 and 4 and two are attached directly to com 1 and 2.
the two modems on the multiport card allways pick up the incoming call within 2 rings.
the other two may, or may not pick up the call in anything up to 15 rings if they pick up the call at all.
at any time during the day or night all 4 ports will stop accepting incoming calls and the modems will appear to just ringfrom the client , until remote accesss service is re started.
when the modems are not picking up there is no indication of a problem from remote acccess manager, ports ,which shows that all are waiting for a call and do not show a user logged in when there isnt, one which would be easily fixable by resetting the port.
there is also no problem with the cables as they are all new (serial) and the modems have the correct initialisation strings and the correct .inf file being used.
I am to say the least a little bit baffled especially after re installing the modems/ras/protocols, and even changing the port numbers to use a higher com port range.
Anybody experienced similar problems that have a happy ending I could make use of?
thanks.
