NT4.0 DNS Alias vs Win2k DNS Alias

Can anyone refresh my memory on the difference between an NT4.0 DNS Alias and a Win2k DNS alias?
How are they both treated and how would be the best way to have a Win2k Pro workstation and an NT4.0 workstation use the same alias on an NT4.0 network?
