NTBackup Failure with VSS

by bcook . Updated 17 years, 3 months ago

I’m having a problem with NTBackup. Recently my Primary Domain Controller / File Server had a mirror failure on one of my drives. I have 2 SATA 500gb Drives on Raid 1. When removing the drive the other drive failed as well. Coisidence… maybe. Anyways, I put in 2 brand new drives… same make same model, rebuilt the mirror, restored the backup from one of the .BSK NTBackup files, and everything seems good and is firing good except…

Now … For some reason I can’t get NTBackup to fire properly once more. Looking at Event Viewer, I see that there is a failure with VSS and NTBackup… When I run NTBackup it presents an output of “Preparing backup from Shadow Copy”… Then stalls out for a bit… and terminates. NOTE : VSS had been started in the Services. I have tried stopping it and restarting as well.

I have Windows Server 2003, Service Patch 2, with all cummulative security updates installed as well.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
